What happened

From October 1, 2026, Tesla's US Wheel & Tire Protection costs $24 a month on both Model 3 Performance (was $16) and Model Y Performance (was $20). Cybertruck Windshield Protection went the other way, from $35 to $25 a month ($420 to $300 a year). Drive Tesla Canada reported both changes on August 28, 2026; Tesla said coverage stays the same.

The new monthly prices

Tesla US protection plan prices from October 1, 2026, as reported by Drive Tesla Canada (August 28) and Tesla North (September 2).
PlanBeforeFrom October 1, 2026Change
Wheel & Tire Protection, Model 3 Performance$16/month$24/month+$8 (+50%)
Wheel & Tire Protection, Model Y Performance$20/month$24/month+$4 (+20%)
Cybertruck Windshield Protection$35/month ($420/year)$25/month ($300/year)−$10/month (−$120/year)

Drive Tesla Canada quotes Tesla as saying "coverage and benefits will remain unchanged under both protection plans". The publication suggests the new prices reflect about a year of claims data, which is its reading rather than Tesla's stated reason. Tesla North adds that this is the first cut to the Cybertruck windshield plan since it launched at $35 a month in August 2025, and that Tesla did not explain it.

What the Cybertruck windshield plan covers

As Tesla North describes it: unlimited chip and minor crack repairs on the front windshield, one full glass replacement every 12 months at no extra charge, a $100 deductible for any further replacement in the same year, Tesla glass and camera calibration included, no long-term contract. Collision, vandalism and weather damage are excluded, so the plan sits beside insurance rather than replacing it.

Who this affects

US owners and buyers of Model 3 Performance or Model Y Performance who carry Wheel & Tire Protection, and Cybertruck owners who carry the windshield plan. Neither report lists a change for other trims, so treat those as unchanged until Tesla's app shows otherwise. For a Model 3 Performance owner the increase is $96 a year; for a Model Y Performance owner, $48. A Cybertruck owner on the windshield plan saves $120 a year.

What did not change

  • Coverage. Tesla told Drive Tesla Canada that benefits under both plans stay the same.
  • Other trims. No price change was reported for non-Performance Model 3 or Model Y plans.
  • No code lowers them. These are subscription prices set by Tesla. A referral link does not change them, and coupon-site "codes" do not either; our note on Tesla gift cards and credits covers what does reduce what you pay Tesla.

Is the plan still worth it?

That depends on what you already pay for. Many comprehensive insurance policies include glass cover, sometimes with a low or zero deductible for windshield repair, and some include tyre and wheel damage as an add-on. Compare the plan's yearly cost with the deductible and add-on price on your own policy. Performance trims tend to run larger, lower-profile wheels, which is the case where a wheel plan earns its cost; owners who rarely meet potholes may not need it.

Prices are as reported on August 28 and September 2, 2026. Read the current price in the Tesla app before you add or cancel a plan.

What to do

  • Open the Tesla app and check the monthly price on any protection plan you carry; it should reflect the October 1 change.
  • Compare the yearly plan cost with the glass and wheel cover on your insurance policy, deductible included.
  • Cybertruck owners who dropped the windshield plan at $35: the $25 price may change the calculation.
  • Don't look for a code to lower these prices. None exists.
