Tesla referral in Ireland vs the UK: two countries, two units, two sets of terms

By the TeslaPromoCodes.com desk · published October 19, 2026

Short answer

A referral link opened on Tesla's Irish site gives 1,000 km of free Supercharging on Model 3 and Model Y (Tesla's Irish page, captured July 12, 2026). The UK page gives 650 miles on the same two models (captured October 4, 2026). They are separate countries with separate terms pages, and the one that applies to you is the country where the car is ordered and registered.

Why this comparison keeps coming up

Search for a Tesla referral in Dublin or Cork and many of the results are written for UK readers: same language, shared media, and UK sites that rank across both islands. They quote miles, pounds and UK rules. None of that is wrong for Britain. It is just not what Tesla's Irish page prints, and the two countries' pages have not printed the same thing at any point in 2026.

The two rows side by side

Ireland and the United Kingdom: Tesla's referral benefit per model, newest capture.

IE Ireland1,000 km of free Supercharging1,000 km of free SuperchargingNot on the pageJuly 12, 2026
GB United Kingdom650 miles of free Supercharging650 miles of free SuperchargingNot on the pageOctober 4, 2026

Both countries pay the buyer in Supercharging, not cash, and both leave Cybertruck off the page. The difference is the number and the unit. Ireland's newest capture in the matrix is from July 12, 2026; the UK's is from October 4, 2026. The Internet Archive holds 42 Irish and 64 UK referral-page captures from 2026, and every one we read in full agreed with the row above for its own country.

Kilometres versus miles: not comparable at a glance

"1,000" looks bigger than "650" until you notice the units. Converted as distances only, 650 miles is 1,046 km and 1,000 km is 621 miles, both rounded to the nearest unit. So the UK figure is the slightly larger distance, by 46 km. We do not turn either into euros or pounds: Supercharging prices move by site and time of day, and Tesla does not print a money value for the distance.

The other point of confusion is the wording. Tesla's Irish page reads "1,000 Free Supercharging Kilometers", spelled the American way, even though everything else on an Irish page is in euros. Don't read that spelling as a sign that you have landed on the wrong country's site. The locale code in the address bar (en_ie or en_gb) is the reliable signal.

Two terms pages, two dates

Each country has its own Refer and Earn terms. The text is close to identical, apart from "program" versus "programme", but the dates and the currency clauses differ:

Sources: Tesla's Irish terms, archived May 15, 2026; Tesla's UK terms, archived June 12, 2026. Both pages also say the program is "conditional on and subject to the local laws and regulations of the registration address of the referrer and buyer, respectively". That sentence matters for anyone living near the border, below.

Model S and X earlier in 2026: €500 versus £500

At the start of the year both countries also listed the larger cars. Ireland's capture of January 8, 2026 showed €500 off on Model S and €500 off on Model X; the UK capture of January 7, 2026 showed £500 off and £500 off. Neither model is on either page in the newest captures. We do not print a removal date, because the Archive does not show the exact day; we can only say the cards were there in January and gone by the captures above. If an Irish article tells you that a referral takes €500 off a Model S, it is describing January 2026 at the latest.

Ordering across the border

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, so a buyer in Belfast or Derry orders from Tesla UK and sees miles and pounds. A buyer in Dundalk or Letterkenny orders from Tesla Ireland. Living a few kilometres apart does not make the two countries interchangeable, and the terms tie the program to the registration address of each party.

Two practical consequences follow. First, if you live in the Republic but browse a UK site, the referral link you open should still be an en_ie link; our own links resolve to your country automatically, and the locale code is visible in the address. Second, under the currency clause above, Tesla credits granted in euros pay for Supercharging only when the session is billed in euros. A Supercharger session billed in pounds is outside that clause, so a credit earned in one country is not a pass for the other side of the border. Tesla's terms say nothing more specific about cross-border cases; if your situation is unusual (a UK address now, an Irish registration later), ask Tesla before ordering which country the order belongs to.

How the buyer's Supercharging credit behaves

The Irish FAQ, in the same archived page, says buyer and referrer benefits arrive as Supercharging credits or Tesla credits depending on the vehicle, and that Supercharging credits show in the Tesla app under Charging. They expire 12 months from their grant date. The same FAQ describes an extension that applies to referrers who keep referring, up to a maximum of 36 months; a buyer's one-off credit should be treated as a 12-month allowance. The UK page has the same wording. Plan to use the distance within the first year of ownership.

One inconsistency on the Irish page: its terms list Supercharging, upgrades, service appointments and Tesla Shop purchases as what Tesla credits pay for, while the FAQ further down also names "a new vehicle purchase". We report both lines as printed. If you hold Tesla credits and want to put them towards a car, confirm with Tesla in the app before relying on it.

Which link to use

The benefit is printed by the country page you open, not chosen by the owner who shared it. Every Irish capture we read shows the same layout and the same 1,000 km line, whoever's name heads the page; every UK capture shows 650 miles. So an Irish buyer gains nothing by hunting for a "UK code", and a British buyer gains nothing from an Irish one. What changes the outcome is whether the owner's link is still valid: once an owner has used their 10 referrals for the year, Tesla shows a "Referral Limit Has Been Reached" page with no benefit at all.

What to check before you configure

  1. Look at the address bar after opening the link: tesla.com/en_ie/referral/… for Ireland, tesla.com/en_gb/referral/… for the UK.
  2. Read the line under the model you want. In Ireland it should mention kilometres; in the UK, miles. If there is no line at all, check the heading for "Referral Limit Has Been Reached".
  3. Configure and order from that same tab. Tesla's terms say a referral cannot be credited after the order is placed.
  4. After delivery, check the Charging section of the Tesla app for the credit and note its expiry date.
