Malaysia and Thailand now pay the referral benefit on Model Y, not just Model 3

What happened
Between July and September 2026, Tesla's referral pages in Malaysia and Thailand started listing the same cash benefit on Model Y that they already gave on Model 3: RM 1,000 off in Malaysia and ฿8,500 off in Thailand. On both pages the Model Y card now reads "Model Y Excl. Launch Series", so a Launch Series car is left out.

For the first half of 2026, both countries followed the pattern we described in why some countries pay on Model 3 only: cash off Model 3, and a Model Y card with no benefit line under it. The Thai page even headlined the offer as "Up to ฿8,500 Off a New Tesla", because only one of the two models carried it. Then the Model Y entry changed.

We read these from raw Internet Archive captures of the referral pages, which carry Tesla's own product data. On the Malaysian capture of July 10, 2026, the Model Y entry held a cash value of zero; on August 21, 2026 it held RM 1,000, and so did every Malaysian capture after it. Thailand has no captures between July 12 and September 29, 2026, so the change there happened somewhere in that window, and we cannot pin it closer.
The Launch Series exclusion
From late August, the Malaysian Model Y card was labeled "Model Y Excl. Launch Series", and the Thai card had the same label by September 29. The cash is attached to Model Y in general, but the card spells out that the Launch Series version is not part of it. The Malaysian product data already carried an "ExcludingLaunchSeries" label on July 10, while Model Y still showed zero, so the label came first and the money followed.
Tesla does not say on the page why Launch Series is left out, and we won't guess. What matters for a buyer is simple. If the car you configure is a Launch Series, do not expect the line under the Model Y card to apply to it.
What did not change
- The amounts. Malaysia's figure on Model Y is the same RM 1,000 its page has shown on Model 3 all year; Thailand's is the same ฿8,500. Neither country raised the Model 3 figure.
- The rest of the region. On their latest captures, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau and Singapore still showed Model Y with no buyer benefit. Japan and the Philippines already paid on both models.
- The rules. Both countries' terms still say the link must be used before the order is placed and that only a first-time Tesla buyer gets the buyer benefit.

What to do
- Buying a Model Y in Malaysia or Thailand: open the referral link before you configure, and read the line under the Model Y card on the page it opens. That page is the final word, not this summary.
- Choosing a Launch Series Model Y: assume the referral cash does not apply. The card on Tesla's page says so.
- Ordered a Model Y earlier in 2026 without a benefit: Tesla's terms say a referral cannot be added after an order is placed, so a later change on the page does not reach an existing order.
- In another Asia-Pacific country: check your own row in the matrix. Model Y still earns nothing through a link in several of them.
