Tesla North also gives the longer view. The Wall Connector sold for as little as C$465 in Canada and $350 in the United States in December 2022, and the Universal Wall Connector launched in the US in August 2023 at $595. The Universal unit carries Tesla's NACS connector with an integrated J1772 adapter, so it charges Tesla and non-Tesla cars; that is the reason to pay more for it, and the only one.

An install quote inside the Tesla app, maybe

Not a Tesla App reported on October 2, 2026 that version 4.61.5 of the Tesla app contains code for buying a Wall Connector and getting an installation quote in the app. The features were found in the code and were not documented by Tesla, so treat them as in preparation, not launched. If the option appears in your app, it is one quote among several, not a reason to skip an independent electrician.

Who this affects

New owners in Canada and the United States who plan to charge at home. For most of them the unit is the smaller part of the bill: installation, a new circuit and, in older homes, a panel upgrade usually cost more than the hardware. A C$55 or C$145 increase matters less than getting the install right.

What did not change

  • No code discounts Tesla hardware. Promo codes on coupon sites do not apply to the Wall Connector; our note on Tesla Shop discount codes covers why.
  • Credits still work where you have them. Gift cards and account credits are the only routes we know of that reduce a Shop purchase; see Tesla gift cards and credits.
  • Retail prices follow Tesla's. Tesla North reports Best Buy Canada updated to the new price, so shopping around for the unit itself may not save anything.
  • The referral benefit applies to a new car order and does not reach the Shop.

How to budget the charger line

Put three numbers next to each other: the unit price on Tesla's site for your country, an installation quote from a licensed electrician, and any rebate your utility or province offers for home charging equipment. Those programs differ by region and change often, so check your utility's site directly rather than an article. If you only charge one Tesla, the standard Wall Connector is the cheaper choice; the Universal unit makes sense when a non-Tesla EV will share the garage. Our note on a Tesla's price after savings shows where this line sits in the full cost.

Prices are as reported by Tesla North on September 17, 2026. Read the current price on Tesla's site for your country before you buy.

What to do

  • Read the Wall Connector price on Tesla's site for your country on the day you buy; it has moved twice since July in Canada.
  • Get at least one installation quote from a licensed electrician, and use the in-app quote as a second one if your app offers it.
  • Check your utility or province for a home-charger rebate before you order the unit.
  • Buy the Universal unit only if a non-Tesla EV will use it.
