Tesla referral in Macau and Hong Kong: one pattern, two places, two currencies
Short answer
Macau is separate from Hong Kong in Tesla's referral program, with its own referral page and its own terms. Tesla's Macau page showed MOP$1,958 off Model 3 for a first-time buyer on July 10, 2026; Hong Kong's showed HK$1,900 off Model 3 on July 12, 2026. In both, Model Y is listed with no buyer benefit, and Cybertruck is not on the page.

The two rows side by side
| Country | Model 3 | Model Y | Cybertruck | Captured |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MO Macau | MOP$1,958 off | Listed, no buyer benefit shown | Not on the page | July 10, 2026 |
| HK Hong Kong | HK$1,900 off | Listed, no buyer benefit shown | Not on the page | July 12, 2026 |
Both figures were the same on the earliest 2026 captures (January 8, 2026 in both places), so neither changed its benefit during the year as far as the Archive shows. The Archive holds 76 Macau and 80 Hong Kong referral captures from 2026.
Each has two language versions. In Macau the English page reads "[name] Gave You Up To MOP$1,958 Off a New Tesla", and the Chinese page says the same in traditional characters. Hong Kong's reads "Up To HK$1,900 Off". "Up to" is Tesla's wording: the top figure is the Model 3 figure, because Model Y earns nothing.
Why MOP$1,958 and HK$1,900
The two numbers look like one amount in two currencies. The Macau page's own data supports that reading in one detail: next to the MOP$1,958 buyer cash for Model 3, the same page holds the Model 3 loyalty amount as 1,900 in Hong Kong dollars, and holds Model Y's zero in Hong Kong dollars too. So Tesla's Macau page carries both currencies at once.
We do not turn that into an exchange rate. Neither page states one, and Tesla does not explain how it set MOP$1,958. What matters for a buyer is simpler: if you order in Macau, the page shows MOP$1,958, and that is the figure Tesla applies there.
Model Y: listed, with nothing
Both pages carry a "New Model Y" card, and both pages put an "Explore Inventory" button first. Neither shows any buyer benefit for Model Y. This is the pattern several Asia-Pacific countries share, and we compare them in countries that pay on Model 3 only. A Model Y buyer in Macau or Hong Kong gets nothing extra through a link, so the link only matters if you are ordering a Model 3.
Cash off is also a small share of the price in both places. How small depends on the trim; check the car's price in each configurator before you weigh the referral line.

Same date, same cap, separate pages. Each set of terms makes the program subject to the law of the buyer's registration address. A Macau resident registering a car in Macau orders through Tesla Macau. Opening a Hong Kong link does not move you into Hong Kong's terms or currency.
Capped owners in both places
Each owner can refer 10 orders a year. When they reach the cap, Tesla's page changes. We found such a page in both places on the same day, June 17, 2026: the heading becomes "[name] 已達推薦數目上限" ("[name] has reached the referral limit"), and the benefit lines disappear from both model cards. We leave those captures out of the matrix because they describe one owner, not the country. For you, the lesson is practical: if a Macau or Hong Kong link shows no MOP or HK$ line under Model 3, use another owner's link before you order.
Ordering in Macau versus Hong Kong
The bigger money in Hong Kong is not the referral. The Hong Kong government said on February 25, 2026 that first registration tax concessions for electric private cars, including the One-for-One Replacement Scheme, would not be extended past March 31, 2026. Cars ordered on or before February 25, 2026 can still claim the old concession if the application reaches the Transport Department by February 24, 2027. That changes a Hong Kong car's on-the-road cost far more than HK$1,900 does. We have not found an equivalent Macau government notice and do not describe Macau's taxes here. Hong Kong buyers can find the details on our Hong Kong page.
What to check
- Order in the place where the car will be registered: Macau or Hong Kong.
- If you are buying a Model 3, open an owner's link first and look for the MOP$1,958 or HK$1,900 line.
- If you are buying a Model Y, the link adds nothing in either place; compare custom-order and inventory prices instead.
- In Hong Kong, ask Tesla for an on-the-road quote that shows first registration tax under the current rules.
