Tesla's referral terms, country by country: effective dates, updates and caps

By the TeslaPromoCodes.com desk · published October 16, 2026

Short answer

Tesla publishes a separate Refer and Earn terms page for each country, and their dates differ. Most European countries, plus the UAE, carry an update dated June 4, 2025; the US terms were updated on February 24, 2026; Turkey's took effect on March 12, 2026; Korea's July 1, 2025 update closed referral links. Every country with live terms caps referrers at 10 order referrals per calendar year.

Why a per-country table

Almost every article about Tesla's referral rules quotes the US terms. That is reasonable for American readers, and misleading for everyone else: Tesla keeps a separate Refer and Earn page for each country, each with its own "Effective" line, and sometimes an "Updated" line. A buyer in Lisbon or Kuala Lumpur is bound by the Portuguese or Malaysian page, not the American one. We read the newest archived copy of 45 of them (some countries have one page per language) and set their dates side by side.

Dates are transcribed into English from each page's own language; the last column opens the archived copy so you can read the original line. "—" means the page prints an effective date and no update line. The cap is the yearly limit on order referrals per owner, quoted from the same page.

The June 4, 2025 update most of Europe shares

29 of the 45 pages carry the same update date, June 4, 2025: every European country we read, plus the UAE. Their effective dates differ (from September 5, 2024 for the first wave of the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Norway, to November 27, 2024 for Iceland), which reflects the order in which Tesla relaunched referrals country by country. The shared update date says Tesla revised all of these pages in one pass.

The pages do not say what changed on that date, and Tesla does not publish older versions next to the new ones, so we do not guess. What we can compare directly is the three English-language pages in the group (the UK, Ireland and the UAE). They match line for line apart from currency: the 10-per-year cap, the "cannot be credited after the order is placed" rule, Certified Pre-Owned cars excluded, and a clause that Tesla credits granted in pounds, euros or dirhams pay for Supercharging only where the session is billed in that currency. Every other page in the group states the same 10-per-year cap in its own language. The Ireland vs UK note shows that clause in practice.

The US update of February 24, 2026

The US page reads "Effective August 24, 2024. Updated February 24, 2026." (Tesla's US terms, archived June 15, 2026). It is the only page in the table with a 2026 update. Its text includes the yearly cap, a lifetime limit of 30 demo-drive referrals, and the line "Cybertruck Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive is eligible for loyalty benefits only and cannot be purchased to earn buyer or referrer benefits." For what Tesla actually gives a buyer in the United States, read the US row of the matrix; it changes more often than the terms do.

Turkey: the newest terms page

Tesla's Turkish page reads, in our translation, "Effective as of March 12, 2026. Updated March 12, 2026." It is the most recent effective date in the set and it sets the same 10-referral yearly cap. Turkey is also unusual in the matrix: its referral page lists Model Y only, with 1,000 km of free Supercharging.

Pages with no update line

13 pages print an effective date and nothing more: Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico in the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific countries. Australia and New Zealand share the date August 22, 2025 and the Philippines reads August 8, 2025, so those three programs are newer than the European wave. An absent update line does not prove the text never changed; it means Tesla did not print one.

A note on our own data: when we first parsed these pages, our tool missed the date line on 12 non-English pages, and our terms file shows them as having no date. Every one of them does print a date, as the table above shows. We read those lines by hand from the archived text.

Korea: the one page that closed referrals

Korea's page reads "Effective October 9, 2024. Updated July 1, 2025." and its FAQ says referral links are no longer active from July 1, 2025, while unexpired credits can still be used. It is the only terms page in the set that ends the referral side of the program, and it states no yearly cap because there is nothing left to cap. The 2025 and 2026 captures are in our Korea close-up.

What is the same everywhere we read

  • The cap. Every page except Korea's limits an owner to 10 order referrals per calendar year.
  • Before the order, never after. Each of the 14 English-language pages says a referral link cannot be credited after the order is placed; it is the rule buyers break most often, and what happens if the offer changes after you order follows from it.
  • First purchase only. On all 14 English-language pages, buyer benefits are for a first qualifying Tesla product; owners get loyalty benefits instead.
  • No cash value. The same 14 pages say benefits are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash.
  • No end date, but no promise either. The pages we read in English say the program "will not remain open indefinitely".

How to read your own country's page

  1. Find your country's locale code in the matrix (for example pt_pt).
  2. Open tesla.com/<locale>/support/refer-and-earn in a browser, or its archived copy from the table above.
  3. Find the "Terms and Conditions" heading. The first line under it is the effective and updated date; compare it with the table. A newer date than ours means Tesla has changed the page since our capture.
  4. Read the cap sentence and the credit-currency sentence; they are the two that most often differ in wording from the US page.
  5. If a line matters to your decision, take a screenshot with the date showing before you order.

The full method behind the matrix, including how often we re-read these pages, is on the methodology page.
