What happened
On October 1, 2026, Drive Tesla Canada reported a new entry Model 3 RWD at A$45,900 in Australia and NZ$54,900 in New Zealand, about A$9,000 and NZ$9,000 below the Model 3 Premium RWD that had been the cheapest version (A$54,900 / NZ$63,900, unchanged). Model Y Performance fell from A$89,400 to A$84,900 and from NZ$100,900 to NZ$95,900. These are list prices before on-road costs.

Drive Tesla Canada gave the new Model 3 RWD "up to 572 km of WLTP range" and a 0–100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds, with deliveries "mid-to-late October" in Australia and "late November" in New Zealand. The Model Y Performance cut came with a production move from Germany to Giga Shanghai. The Driven, on October 2, 2026, described the new car as "a 'stripped down' version of the Model 3 RWD, priced at just under $46,000 before on-roads".
A new trim, not a cut to your car
For Model 3 this is a new, cheaper version, not a lower price on the one people already ordered. The Premium RWD costs the same as before. "Stripped down" is the point: a lower price for less equipment. Before switching, compare the two versions' equipment lists in the configurator line by line, because some of the A$9,000 is the cost of what is left out.
For Model Y Performance it is a real price cut on the same model. If you hold an undelivered Model Y Performance order at A$89,400 or NZ$100,900, ask Tesla in writing whether the order can move to the new price. Tesla publishes no price-protection policy we have found, so the answer is Tesla's decision.

Australia's newest capture (October 4, 2026) came after the new trim appeared, but the Model 3 card does not name versions, and we have not confirmed that the cash covers the new entry RWD. What has not changed
- Model 3 Premium prices. A$54,900 and NZ$63,900, as before.
- On-road costs. The list prices exclude them; the drive-away figure in the configurator is the one to compare.
- No promo code. The new price is the listed price for everyone. The inventory reduction and trade-in bonus reported a few days later are a separate offer (our item).
What to do
- Compare drive-away prices in the configurator for your postcode, not the list prices above.
- Read the equipment list of the new Model 3 RWD against the Premium RWD before choosing on price.
- Hold an undelivered Model Y Performance order at the old price? Ask Tesla in writing whether it can be re-priced before delivery.
